Thomas Danne

Professor of Pediatrics, Hannover Medical School, Germany

Professor Thomas Danne is a German pediatrician specializing in diabetes. He received his MD in 1984 from the Medical School of the Free University Berlin, held a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the German Research Council (1986–1988), and was a research fellow at the Elliott P. Joslin Research Laboratory, Harvard (1988–1991). ​
Professor Danne has practiced medicine at the Free University Berlin, the Charité Children´s Hospital (Berlin), and the Children’s Hospital “Auf der Bult” Medical School (Hannover). He is currently the Chief Medical Officer International for the JDRF, and also holds the position of Professor of Pediatrics at the Hannover Medical School, Germany. ​

Professor Danne's distinguished career includes numerous awards and honors, including the ISPAD Prizes for Innovation and Achievement, the Helmut-Otto Medal, and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Diabetes Federation. He has held leadership roles in prominent diabetes organizations including ISPAD, the German Diabetes Association, and INNODIA. ​
Professor Danne has authored more than 230 publications in the field of diabetes and serves on the editorial boards of  Pediatric Diabetes, Diabetes Technology & Therapeutics, Hormone Research in Paediatrics, and Diabetes Care.
