Gun Forsander

Institute for Clinical Sciences, Sahlgrenska Academy University of Gothenburg, Sweden

I regard education and individualized support for the child and family as the cornerstone to success in pediatric diabetes care.

Gun Forsander presented her thesis on a 5-year RCT study in pediatric diabetes at Karolinska Institute, Stockholm in the year 2000. Her post-doc clinical work and research have since 2003 been at the Queen Silvia Children’s hospital and Institute for Clinical Sciences, University of Gothenburg. She was called and accepted to take the lead in developing the diabetes business in this second largest pediatric diabetes clinic in Sweden, aiming to create the best possible care for children.

She is active in many national and international diabetes communities, and was president of the annual ISPAD meeting in 2013. A great many papers have been published in high-ranked scientific journals, and she has supervised several PhD and Master’s students. Her current research interest is focused on prediabetes, biomarkers, and screening for type 1 diabetes, as well as family psychological support and early detection, and possible prevention of complications from the disease.
