Professor Flemming Pociot is a renowned researcher in type 1 diabetes with a career dedicated to understanding and fighting the disease. As a clinical professor at the Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen and research leader at the Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen (SDCC), he leads pioneering projects aimed at predicting, evaluating, and preventing the development of type 1 diabetes. His research focuses on identifying biomarkers that can predict the risk of type 1 diabetes, disease progression and response to treatments. Through the combination of genetics, genomics, and metabolomics, he works with well-characterized cohorts to create new tools such as biomarkers, disease models and clinical trial paradigms. Professor Pociot is a central figure in international research consortia such as INNODIA, which aims to understand and stop the progression of type 1 diabetes and EDENT1FI and DiaUnion, which focuses on the early detection of type 1 diabetes. His work aims to impact on the future treatment and management of patients with type 1 diabetes and people in risk of the disease.
