Mark Evans
University of Cambridge, Cambridge, UK

There has never been, and never will be, a “good time” to develop Type 1 diabetes but we have seen so many clinical advances over the last two decades including now with opportunities to intervene earlier and materially alter the pathway of immune damage.
Prof. Mark Evans is a Professor of Diabetic Medicine based in the University of Cambridge’s Institute of Metabolic Science and a Consultant Physician working in diabetes and general medicine in Cambridge University Hospitals (Addenbrookes). He trained in Medicine in London, including time spent as a research fellow at Kings College Hospital in London and then at Yale University in USA. He moved to Cambridge in 2002 to set up his own research team. His clinical and academic interests are in hypoglycemia, type 1 diabetes, immunotherapy, medical technology, including glucose-sensors, insulin pumps and closed loop insulin delivery, and structured education for diabetes. He is the medical lead for a large insulin pump service with over 1000 adults using pumps including increasing numbers using automated insulin delivery.
