Justin Gregory
Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, Tennessee, USA

Justin Gregory is a pediatric endocrinologist at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, in Nashville, Tennessee. His research focuses on the cardiometabolic implications of peripheral insulin injections to treat type 1 diabetes. Through studies in both canines and humans, Dr. Gregory has found that this method of insulin delivery bypasses clearance by the liver, leading to elevated insulin levels and consequent hypoglycemia and insulin resistance. He is currently launching a new NIH-funded study, which involves the use of GLP-1 receptor agonists in the treatment of Stage 2, type 1 diabetes patients who have received teplizumab. The primary objective of this research is to explore the metabolic benefits and mechanisms of this novel treatment approach. Ultimately, he aims to identify interventions that could potentially delay the need for exogenous insulin therapy, offering a promising new direction in the optimization of early-stage type 1 diabetes treatment.
