John Wentworth

Royal Melbourne Hospital and St. Vincent’s Institute of Medical Research, Melbourne, Australia

Education is the key to early detection of T1D – it empowers individuals, families and their health teams to make informed decisions about screening, shaping disease trajectory and long-term outcomes.

John Wentworth is an adult endocrinologist at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre, and a Senior Clinical Research Fellow at St Vincent’s Institute of Medical Research in Melbourne, Australia. He also holds honorary appointments at the Royal Children's Hospital and WEHI in Melbourne.

Professor Wentworth’s research focuses on early detection in T1D and preserving beta cell function with disease-modifying therapies. He leads and collaborates widely with national and international colleagues on many clinical trials in early-stage diabetes, and is currently running several clinical trials at The Royal Melbourne Hospital and The Royal Children’s Hospital.

Professor Wentworth also heads up the Australasian T1D Immunotherapy Collaborative (ATIC), leads the Type1Screen national islet autoantibody screening program, and is a co-investigator for the ENDIA birth-cohort study and the National Screening Pilot.
