Summary
Exercise has many benefits for people with type 1 diabetes. However, there are also several barriers, including fear of hypoglycemia. Exercise also comes with risks for people with type 1 diabetes, including diabetic ketoacidosis. Nonetheless, ADA recommends people with type 1 diabetes to engage in aerobic, resistance and possibly flexibility exercises. Nutrition and insulin delivery need to be adjusted based on the exercise type. People should also monitor their glucose level during and after the activity.
BR1DGE is a non-promotional global medical education program designed to advance understanding around presymptomatic type 1 diabetes and is provided by Sanofi.
